The tools of the game reflect changes in the manufacturing process... alongside the ingenuity of bowlers over the years.
The earliest bowls featured on our Wall of Bowls are turned from lignum vitae and some have been re-purposed from ship ballast.
In the early 1900s bowls manufactured from composite materials began to appear on New Zealand greens. The bowls are shaped asymmetrically to give the curve when rolled.
This collection houses a diverse range of measuring objects.
